Our first day was filled with sight-seeing with Elizabeth, Ethan's sister and our hostess who lives on Long Island. We went all over New York: Times Square, Grand Central Station, Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, St. Thomas Church, Trump Tower, Tiffany & Co., FAO Schwartz, Central Park, the Guggenheim Museum, a SoHo coffeeshop, Chinatown, the Empire State Building, and back to Penn Station! We also saw real Secret Service men and the Prime Minister of Egypt, and our friend Josh (who works for Blender these days) accidentally ran into us on 33rd!

On Tuesday, the three of us drove up through Connecticut to Amherst to visit UMass. We went on a guided tour of the campus, checked out the town, and then returned to the campus to take photos. The sandwiches at Judie's were fantastic, as was the ice cream at Bart's. Everyone we encountered was very friendly, including the lady in the library who recommended we go to the 23rd floor for the best view of campus.

Wednesday, Ethan and I trekked out alone to get a vastly incomplete glimpse of the Met (including its cafeteria), experience the beauty of Central Park, gawk at the Ed Sullivan Theater, dine at Angelo's Pizza next door, stop by the Hershey's store, play in the Times Square Toys R Us, and marvel at nighttime Times Square all lit-up.

Thursday was the second and final day that Ethan and I navigated New York by ourselves. We visited the awesome Museum of Modern Art and ended up getting to see Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith for free, in New York City, on opening day, in the beautiful Ziegfeld Theatre, without waiting in line at all. It was amazing. Afterwards, we had an absolutely lovely dinner at la Prima Donna. Then we said a tipsily enamoured goodbye to Times Square at night, watched the B-Boys Wit Flava dance like nobody's bidness in the subway, and waited for the train to take us home.

On Friday, Elizabeth and her friend Sharon joined us for a great day of museum-ing. First on the agenda (after some lunch at a deli) was the Met; we delved into the Musical Instruments gallery and the Modern Art gallery. Then we returned to the Guggenheim to see art by Hilla Rebay, Kandinsky, Picasso, van Gogh, and others (photos were not allowed). Last, we went back to the MoMA, largely because I really wanted to see the Yves Tanguy paintings again. Then Ethan and I took in our last moments of NYC, the mosaicked subways, and Penn Station before boarding the LIRR back to Westbury. Curt met up with the four of us and drove us to Pietro's for a birthday dinner for Ethan. The next morning we were up early for the long trip home.
